halftoning
Definition: Reproduction technique which uses discrete units of ink or other marker of fixed strength or intensity, or their absence, to simulate the appearance of continuous tone e.g. off-set lithography, ink-jet and laser-printer. * Note variation in strength of colours, etc. is not obtained by varying the strength of the ink or marker. * Nothing to do with a semi-tone in music, which is about half of a whole tone interval.
