halation
Definition: (1) Unsharp image seen to surround an image of a bright object when recorded on a photographic film or plate. * Caused by light penetrating the light-sensitive layer then reflected back from the backing layer, being scattered in the process. (2) Glow surrounding a bright spot that appears on the fluorescent screen of cathode-ray tube: caused by reflections from the glass front of the tube.
