fluorescent screen

Definition: Plate coated with a layer of a x-ray sensitive flourescent material -- e.g. phosphor -- to make x-rays visible for observation without need for film. * Also used for photography as image intensifier, with film held in contact with the screen. Most films are far more sensitive to the light emitted by a phosphor than to x-rays.
