Definition: Measure of the extent of a subject that can be seen with or utilised by an optical instrument. * May be given as (1) the angle subtended at the eye by the limits of the field or (2) as the width of the subject space that can be seen at a given viewing distance e.g. 100m e.g. as quoted for binoculars.
