Definition: (1) The area covered in one cyle of scanning e.g. in a television or video projector: the scanning beam starts at the top and reaches the bottom of the screen. * This is equal to a frame in a non-interlaced device and equal to half a frame of an interlaced device. (2) Volume of space in which objects are imaged with acceptable sharpness for a given lens, focus and aperture setting and viewing conditions. * Measured as depth of field. (3) Area or extent of a subject that is seen or imaged by an optical instrument. * It is measured by field of view. (4) Box or space in dialogue box or form presented by software application which user has to fill in e.g. field in database requires data to be input.
