Definition: (1) Copy that closely matches the original -- almost to point of being indistinguishable. * In photography, the synonymous term 'duplicate' is more often used. (2) Reproduction and transmission sytem with which a picture or text is scanned in one facsimile machine by converting the original into a stream of analogue electrical signals that are transmitted via telephone to the receiver which reconstructs and prints out a copy of the original. * Also known as fax.
