Definition: Power of polarised light that is maximally transmitted through polarising filter compared to its power when minimally transmitted. * The ratio of a plane-polarized beam's transmitted power when the plane of polarisation is parallel to that of the polarizer to the beam's transmitted power when the axes of polarisation of beam and polarizer are perpendicular to each other.
