evaluative metering

Definition: Camera system for determining exposure settings for a given scene by analysing the scene into a number of sectors for their luminance, then looking up previously collated data to determine the best match between the scene and camera setting. * This programmed approach to exposure control provides far more reliable results than other, cruder, methods of exposure metering such as centre-weighted.
