elbow telescope

Definition: Design of telescope which bends the optical axis by e.g. 45< or 90< to improve ease of viewing. * Usual configuration is to use one or more prisms to bend the axis: this has useful effect of increasing path-length, making more compact designs possible. * Used for spotting scopes and bird-watching monoculars.
