dye transfer

Definition: Assembly process for making colour prints using three separation images. * One technique is to make red, green and blue separation negatives to the full size of the final print through respective filters or via separation negatives onto special matrix film incorporating dichromated gelatin. After development and curing (or hardening), the matrix is treated with dyes of secondary colours: cyan (red separation), magenta (green separation) and yellow (blue separation) and each is printed in register on the other in the above sequence onto heavyweight receiving paper. * Capable of producing extraordinarily sensual colour prints with excellent archival qualities. * Formerly known as wash-off relief.
