drop-out
Definition: (1) Noun: Defect in image or reproduction process in which information is lost or not displayed. * (a) In lithography: loss of dot in highlight regions. (b) In visual output devices e.g. monitors, printers: pixels which do not register their proper value but appear as either black or white. (2) Adjective: ~ ink: used for marking film, etc. with instructions. * It is visible to the eye but is not picked up by reproduction process e.g. red ink is invisible to exposures using red light.
