drift

Definition: Change in output of a device where there is no change in the input. * E.g. colour balance of monitor screen, print-outs from a printer, read-outs from any measuring instrument.
Keeping a watchful eye
Drift is the reason why any device critical to quality of output should be regularly calibrated: some, like processing machines, should be calibrated every day while others, such as monitor screens may need to be checked only every few months. But all depends on the quality standards needed.
