double-weight

Definition: Adjective: ~ paper: printing paper that is thicker and heavier than single-weight papers. * Now more or less the standard weight for papers as there is little call for lighter or heavier papers
When is double twice?
As it was never clear nor standardised what was meant by single-weight, ideas vary as to what constitutes double-weight, but the typical substance is paper of 200-250gsm or, at one time, even more. Heavier papers sound nice and feel nice when dry, but are a night-mare to handle when wet, take ages to dry and are more difficult to dry flat. Lighter, or single, weight papers are just too flimsy and lack the quality feel.
