densitometry

Definition: Study and analysis of changes in the amount or density of silver or dye images in film or on print. * Density is usually measured indirectly, in terms of amount of light absorbed or scattered by film or reflected by print. Used to evaluate film speed, contrast, granularity, colour balance and related parameters. * For colour materials, densitometry through sets of red, green and blue filters are required for each type: Status A for transparencies; Status M for colour negative; Status D for colour prints.
