deformable mirror device

Definition: Semi-conductor device consisting of a tiny mirror controlled by a transistor: a change in charge of a transistor deforms or moves the mirror. * The mirror is a metal-coated polymer film which is stretched over a metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor. * Used in an array as a spatial modulator e.g. for video displays: each mirror is aligned to either a red, green or blue laser to as to control the colour of each projected pixel. * Also called DMD, or deformable membrane device, or digital micromirror device.
