cylindrical lens

Definition: Design of lens in which there is at least one surface formed from a part of a cylinder. * Used to correct astigmatism in the eye; to produce astigmatism e.g. stretching a point of light into a line for rangefinding purposes e.g. in auto-focus cameras, etc. * Also known as anamorphic or toric lens.
