cutoff wavelengths

Definition: (1) In colour filters: those wavelengths at which the transmission through the filter falls below 5 percent. (2) In light detectors: the longest wavelength at which detector response falls to 50% (or other pre-set percentage). (3) In fibre optics: the wavelength at which light is not internally reflected along the fibre.
