covering power

Definition: (1) Indication of ability of ink or dye-stuff to hide or cover what lies beneath e.g. yellow ink has a lower covering power than black ink. (2) Ability of lens to project an image sufficiently large for the format in use: the diameter of projected image should be just larger than the format diagonal.
