convolution
Definition: Transformation of the values of pixels of bit-mapped images by applying a mathematical function to either single pixels or groups of pixels without changing the number or position of the pixels for purpose of image enhancement. * It is fundamentally what happens when filters such as sharpening, blurring or edge-finding, are applied to the whole image (values of the pixels are changed), when the image is compressed (the values are re-encoded) or when a fingerprint is applied (certain values are systematically changed).
