colour fringing

Definition: Imperfection of image due to aberration in the optical system producing the image. * Lateral chromatic aberration is the major contributor to this fault: hence also known as lateral colour. * Most commonly seen in magnifying glass, inexpensive loupes. * In camera lenses, it reduces the image quality e.g. of fast wide-angle lenses.
