Definition: (1) Instrument in which amounts of three primary coloured lights shining on a test panel can be varied: the proportion of primaries that match a test or sample colour when additively mixed provides the tristimulus values of the sample colour. (2) Instrument for measuring colour using three broad-band filters. (3) Chemistry: an instrument used to measure the concentration of a colourant.
