Definition: Black & white enlarger using a cold cathode as its primary light-source: it provides a cool-working source of highly actinic light because it is rich in blue light. * NB: it is not suitable for multi-grade papers. Device that emits radiant energy in the form of e.g. light or electrons by using a high-voltage gradient at its surface. * Used e.g. for black & white enlargers. * Contrast with hot cathode, which works by heating up the emitting element.
