cassette
Definition: Container for roll-film that allows camera to be loaded and unloaded in daylight. * Designed to be: light-tight; hold film compactly; allow film to move freely through camera; cheap to manufacture. * May be reusable - usually made of plastic, rarely of metal - or disposable - usually made of metal. * Available in various film formats: 126 (cassette incorporates take-up spool for film); 135 (commonest: film must be rewound into cassette after exposure); and 70 mm (used in medium format cameras). * Cassettes carry film identification and may contain codes for camera and film processor machinesto identify film type, speed, length, etc.
