Definition: Design of imaging device for working in low-light levels. * Consists of a series light multipliers or amplifiers in which the output of the first becomes the input of the second and so on -- hence a cascade of amplification. * Used in night scopes and similar principle may also be employed in photo-multiplier tubes of drum scanners.
