Definition: (1) Measure of quantity of data that can be stored in a device. * Capacity of e.g. a hard-disk is measured in megabytes meaning decimal millions of bytes (not binary millions which are multiples of 1,048,576). * NB: Actual capacity of most removable media must be reduced by an amount which represents the space used for the directory information needed to keep track of files. (2) Measure of quantity of material that can be processed to specification by a given volume of formulation or chemical e.g. number of films that can be processed by 500cc of made-up developer.
