Definition: Fundamental unit measuring luminous intensity. * One candela is the luminous intensity of 1/60 cm2 of platinum at its solidification temperature. * Equal to radiant energy 1/683W per steradian. * Symbol cd. * Roughly equal to international candle or candle, which it replaces. * Loosely, it is a measure of brightness of a light source. * Used to derive luminance and luminous flux.
