bus
Definition: Short for data-bus: part of a computer: responsible for carrying data around the motherboard between various components e.g. between processor and main memory, to and from the input and output ports. * Buses are characterized by their (a) width e.g. 16-bit means they carry 16-bit data, and (b) speed: this is almost always less than the main clock speed but the faster the bus speed, the faster data can be moved around the computer.
