brownout

Definition: Significant drop in electrical supply. * Loss of voltage in mains supply for a significant period (more than few seconds). When brown is worse than black Brownouts can cause more damage than a complete blackout or total loss of power because the low power may allow some components to work while others do not, creating imbalances and strains which the circuit or equipment is not designed to tolerate. The only protection is to use an UPS.
