Definition: (1) Adjective: describing an area that has no colour or hue due to absorption of most or all light. (2) Noun: maximum density of a photograph -- of any kind. When black isn't Black ink itself doesn't make good black: you usually need to throw in a few dollops of one of the separation inks, preferably all three. Similarly, black does not look good if made up only of C Y and M. This is important as thequality of black is a keystone for picture quality.
