binocular
Definition: (1) Noun: short for prism binocular: optical instrument consisting of two telescopes -- usually made compact by use of prisms -- aligned to be used with both eyes to provide enlarged, stereoscopic views. (2) Adjective: ~ instrument which allows both eyes to be used to view the image. * If there are two objectives, this enables a stereoscopic effect to be achieved, if not, as in high-power microscopes, the binocular design only improves comfort for the observer.
