auto levels

Definition: Automatic Levels adjustment: digital image editing technique which spreads pixel values equally over the available range and through the available colour channels. * The software takes the highest and lowest values in the image - in each colour channel - and moves them to the the maximum and minimum values, redistributing or stretching all the other values at the same time. * Also known as auto equalization.
Auto-levelling exposure
Auto-Levels is a way of quickly correcting colour or exposure faults for the middle-of-the-road images with no overall dominant colour. But it fails for as many images as it helps as it is usually set up to read all colour channels together. Some modern auto-levels allow you to auto-level each channel independently of one another, which is more likely to give useable results.
