apodization
Definition: (1) Removal of zero values as required in e.g. image analysis calculations of modulation transfer function and point spread function. (2) Using a filter with variable transmission across its radius and situated at the aperture stop of a lens in order to modify the optic's diffraction pattern or point spread function. * Low transmission at the center of the aperture improves high frequency performance, while lower transmission at the edge favours low frequencies.
