Definition: Treatment for contact surface of glass or other transparent material to prevent formation of Newton's rings: patterns of rings or fringes caused by interference. * The glass appears rough in a polished way: the bumps and dips are smooth as can be seen in glass slide mounts and glass holders for negatives, etc. used in enlargers and film-scanners.
