aliasing
Definition: Causing to make visible the defects in the scanning or other digitisation process. * It is the visible result of using an input resolution too low to preserve the detail i.e. the sampling frequency is less than double the spatial frequencies of the image. * In fact, where there is detail with spatial frequency greater than half the sampling frequency, it will actually appear in the sampled image to be of a far lower frequency. * Popularly known as stair-stepping from its typical appearance, also as the jaggies.
