aerial perspective

Definition: Visual phenomenon in which distant objects appear less saturated in colour, lighter in tone and less distinct in outline than those closer to the observer, due to dispersion of light due to particles in the atmosphere. * Arguably an optical illusion in that one surmises the distant objects are not truly lighter in colour etc., but appear so because of atmospheric effects.
