adjacency effects

Definition: Group of phenomena of silver halide development characterised by the small details in an image showing variation in their density-exposure relationship compared with the density-exposure relations seen in larger regions of the image. * So-called because the effects occur at the junction of areas of different exposure. * Also known as edge effects.
