VRAM
Definition: Video Random Access Memory: specialised high-speed RAM designed to allow the video processor controlling the image on a monitor screen direct access to memory. It is usually located on the video card. * Generally designed for serial access (not parallel as in usual RAM) as this suits computing for the display. How much VRAM? 2MB VRAM can give millions of colours up to a resolution of 832x624; 4MB VRAM can give millions of colours up to a resolution of 1024x768; 8MB VRAM is needed to give millions of colours at higher resolutions (these figures assume a vertical screen refresh rate of about 75Hz). 16MB is needed by cards designed for displaying the highest resolutions (1600x1200 at 75MHz or more), games and videos.
