RIP
Definition: Raster Image Processor: software or specialist hardware dedicated to the conversion of outline fonts and graphics into rasterised information i.e. to turn outline instructions like 'fill' or 'linejoin' into a set of dots. * Often associated with processor PostScript files, hence term PostScript RIP. * Often extremely processor-intensive so for professional use it is best to have a dedicated hardware RIP -- essentially a computer dedicated to RIP-ing.
