Definition: Software technology in Mac OS which integrates time-based media across applications (from its inception in 1991) and across platforms (from QuickTime 3, of 1998) to enable recording, manipulating and playing back time-based data such as video, animation, sound etc. * Accepted by ISO as part of MPEG 2 specification and from MPEG 4 as the preferred multimedia architecture.
