Nyquist criterion

Definition: In digitisation, the 'rule' that the sampling frequency must be at least twice as high as the frequency -- of sound, image detail, etc. -- which is to be resolved. * When this condition is not met, aliasing occurs: this shows up as irregularities in the sample.
