MTF

Definition: Modulation Transfer Function: measure of the quality of performance of an optical system based on comparison of the contrastiness of the image projected by the system and the contrastiness of the original subject. A perfect system would project an image that is as contrasty as the original: real systems lose some contrast due to imperfections in lens design and manufacture, lens flare and so on.
