Definition: Liquid Crystal Display: design of compact changing display for letters, numbers or symbols which consumes very little power in use. * A layer of liquid crystal is sandwiched between transparent electrodes and a layer of polarising filter: a charge across the electrodes lines up the liquid crystals which is becoming polarising: this crosses with the polarization of the polarizing layer, creating a dark patch the same shape as the crystal.
