Jamin refractometer

Definition: Instrument for measuring refractive index of a gas. * Two beams of light are used: without the test gas, both are the same path-length; with gas introduced to one beam, their path-lengths differ slightly and when made to interfere, cause patterns -- which the index of refraction may be deduced.
