Gaussian optics

Definition: Part of physics dealing with geometrical optics at or very near the optical axis and at small apertures. * Part of optics in which angle ? can be substituted for sin? in Snell's law. * The deviation of the actual image from theory defines the lens aberrations. * Also known as paraxial or first-order optics.
