Definition: Graphical User Interface (pronounced 'goo-ey'): Type of interface - i.e. the arena on monitor screen where computer operator and computer communicate - that is based on extensive use of icons, graphics and text. * Methodology of providing interaction between computer and its user through an interface combining graphical symbols and text. * Contrast with text-based interfaces. * Now standard for nearly all person-to-computer interactions and many GUI conform to published standards e.g. Mac OS, BeOS, Windows 98, etc.
