Energy Star

Definition: Program initiated by environmental concerns to reduce electricity used by computers, monitors and printers, especially when they're standing idle - which is most of the time. Energy Star compliant devices typically can go to sleep e.g. use minimal electricity without actually being turned off yet are ready to run at a moment's notice or can selectively turn off unused components like the hard-disk drive.
