DIN
Definition: (1) Deutsches Institut für Normung: organisation setting industrial standards in Germany, based in Berlin, comparable to BSI and ANSI. (2) Measure of film sensitivity or speed: DIN speed is denoted by degree number on logarithmic scale e.g. 100 ASA is equivalent to DIN 21º. * One-stop intervals are 3 DIN degrees apart so 400 ASA is DIN 27º, 800ASA is DIN 30º and so on. * Stubbornly still used in continental Europe but, as it is measured by ISO procedures, it is exactly equivalent to ASA speeds.
