Definition: Device Independent Bitmap: image file format that allows either use of indexed colour, in association with a colour map or palette to define a pixel's colour or else to define 24 bits of true colour. * Used in multimedia for its compactness and flexibility. * Originally created for IBM's OS/2 operating system for PC-compatible computers.
