D-min

Definition: Minimum density: (1) Measure of least or lowest density of silver or dye image attained by film or print in given sample. (2) Point at bottom of characteristic curve of negative film or top of curve for positive - i.e. region of lowest exposure - at which density reaches minimum for given film, development time and developer. (3) Lowest density of sample of film - usually after processing. * This is sum of density of film base plus density of unexposed but processed emulsion. * A high D-min lowers image quality.
