Definition: Optical component used in microscopes. * Placed under the object stage on a focusing mount to collect and focus light from a light-source directly onto the object under examination. * Features a two-lens construction with large numerical aperture suitable for medium and high-magnification microscope objectives. * Named after inventor, Ernst Abbe.
